Elements of a Story

Students will use this activity to analyze the elements of a story.  The template provided contains the general elements.  Teachers may adapt this template to a specific grade level before using it with students.
  • Students are to view the template before they read to review the elements of a story.
  • While students read the story they may take notes on each element to later put into the slide show.
  • Once students have completed their reading they are to type in text for each slide.
  • The amount of information and explanation given for each element will be dependent upon the grade level of the student.
  • Students will then use the presentation they have created to retell the story or explain how each element enhanced the story.

This template can be used  in conjunction with a story which has been read to a class, a book a student has read or as an extension to any of the online stories listed here.
