Q:  What does STEM stand for?

Q:  Why did Fayette County change the Technology Fair to the STEM Fair?

Q:  The main project that we bought the programs for and are spending most of our time doing is the movie making project. The “Video” registration asks me to check to make sure the video is a public service announcement that is 60 seconds or less. Our video is neither. I see no category for drama video, artistic video, movie making, or the like. What should I register under?

Q:  I am registering some students for digital art – can I register 2 at the primary and 2 at the intermediate level?

Q:  Do our students have to enter something for judging or could their work be strictly for viewing (non-competitive) only?

Q:  When did Fayette County have it's first STEM Fair?

Q:  What does STEM stand for?
A:  STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering Math.

Q:  Why did Fayette County change the Technology Fair to the STEM Fair?
A: It's all about connections.  The purpose of the Technology Fair was always to showcase and celebrate the accomplishments of our students and their use of technology.  The STEM Fair will take that a step higher and allow our students to show how technology is inextricably connected to science, engineering, and mathematics.  Those disciplines are essential to the current and emerging economy of our state and nation.  Through those connections, our students are learning that all facets of their education must complement each other.  Our students are becoming the kind of well rounded individuals who will move us forward in the global economy.

A:  This year  STEM only has video submissions in the Public Service Announcement (PSA) category. What if you register under Showcase? If you had something else in mind for Showcase you could register more than once. You’ll want to look under EVENTS – Showcase for more information. Now, State STLP is another story. They have other video submission categories that you’ll want to look at. The deadline for registration for State submission is March 15 and you can submit 2 videos into each of the 4 categories (documentary, feature, narrative fiction, and PSA). There is more information in the State STLP 2007-2008 Handbook and you can register for State STLP at: http://www.jefferson.k12.ky.us/stlp.

Q:  I am registering some students for digital art – can I register 2 at the primary and 2 at the intermediate level?
A:  Yes, 2 primary students and 2 intermediate students can be entered into each of the 4 digital art categories (Graphic Design, Original Digital Art, Original Photo, Manipulated Photo) for a total of 16 digital art products from an elementary school.

Q.  Do our students have to enter something for judging or could their work be strictly for viewing (non-competitive) only?
A:  When you register, you will be asked to choose which type of booth visit you prefer:

Competitive - with scored rubric
Noncompetitive - without scored rubric

Q:  When did Fayette County have it's first STEM Fair?
A:  The first STEM Fair was March 15, 2008 but Fayette County had it's first Tech Fair the spring of 2003.
