Skill T4.4.3.1: Keywords (Boolean logic: broadening and narrowing)

Grade Level: Seventh

Objective: Given a class research project, the student will locate information using keywords with teacher assistance.

Academic Expectations: 1.16, 3.3, 3.4, 3.7, 5.4, 5.5, 6.2

Resources: Yahooligans, Inspiration software

Sample Activity: 

The teacher will review with the class the process of developing keywords for an Internet search. The teacher will also review the technique of narrowing the search with the use of "and, not"(Ex. "endangered and species not owl") and the technique of widening with the use of "or" (Ex. "drama or theater’) With teacher assistance, the students will locate needed information by using listed keywords and narrowing and widening techniques.
