Introduction/Beginning

Hooks the reader with the first sentences; tells the book’s title and author; tells the author’s purpose for writing the book (for example, to explain how to do something, to help people learn about something or someone, etc.); summarizes at least one of the main ideas in the book to help readers know what the book is about; gives the reviewer’s opinion about the book and tells what the reviewer wants readers to understand or know about the book

 

Body

Includes at least 1 paragraph with a main idea that relates to the reviewer’s opinion about the book; gives evidence, details, or examples from the book to support the main idea 

 

Conclusion/Ending

Ends with the reviewer’s opinion and what the reviewer wants readers to understand or know about the book

 

Language

Uses words correctly, especially special vocabulary words from the book

 

Sentences

Uses different kinds of sentences; uses complete sentences

 

Correctness

Uses correct spelling, capitals, and punctuation (periods, question marks, commas, etc.)
