What Is the Literary Book Club?

The Literary Book Club helps to promote literacy by encouraging students to read books, read other students’ book reviews and book reports, and to share their own ideas and opinions of books they have read.

We would like to thank you for using the Literary Book Club. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the committee members below.

Jamie Burch, Project Coordinator
Barby Hardy, LMS Liason
Dayna Lykins, TRT Liason

You can also contact your school's Technology Resource Teacher. If you don't know who that is, check this page.

Features

  • Student book reviews
  • Booktalks
  • Literacy site of the week
  • Books lists

Book Reviews

Students share their thoughts on a book they have read in the form of a book review. They can go through the writing process online to submit their writing. Guidelines for what the student writing should include is provided during the submission. Students can search by book title, author or school to read other children’s writing.

Once a student clicks submit is the writing automatically put on the website?
When a student completes a submission, that student's teacher is responsible for approving the submission. If the teacher feels as though the student did the best work they could, the submission should be approved. If the teacher does not approve the work, the teacher can add comments to improve the submission.

What is a Book Chat?

Book Chats are designed to give students an opportunity to “discuss” literature. Soon, teachers can schedule times for their students to discuss literature with other students in the district. As this capability becomes available, project coordinators will be scheduling topics and times for classes to chat with others classes about the books they have read.

Literacy Site of the Week

Each week a different website will be featured which promotes literacy. Student activity websites as well as teacher resources sites will be featured.

Book Lists

Looking for a particular book? Want to know what books have won awards? The Book Lists page provides links to many great websites which contain specific lists of books of interest to students and teachers.
