Do you know anything about James Harrod?  Did you know that he came from Pennsylvania?  If you want to know more about James Harrod read our article.

James Harrod came from Pennsylvania.  He came down the Ohio River and up the Kentucky River on a raft or on a flat boat made of logs with supplies like animal skins and a rifle.

James Harrod left Pennsylvania to come to Kentucky because Governor Dunmore sent him to survey Kentucky. Which means that they made sure there was good land to build houses or make sure there were enough animals and water.

He settled a place called Harrodstown which is now Harrodsburg.  Harrodsburg was also once called Boiling Springs.

He had obstacles like Indian attacks, no roads, and no cars.

Because he elected this area and laid out the first settlement on June 16, 1774, Kentucky began to grow as a state.
