Athens-Chilesburg Elementary Wins International Award for Internet Safer Day Competition

On February 6, 2007, under the leadership of Dayne Lykins and Yvonne Hensley, Athens-Chilesburg was selected from over 200 schools worldwide to receive an award for their video contribution to Safer Internet Day 2007. A Group of students at ACE collaborated with students at Semley Primary School in England on the project. They were selected to receive the Award for Innovation, which was one of four awards given.

The students collaborated over a month's time via a message board on the i-SAFE website. Due to the 12 hour time difference, technology was instrumental in allowing the students to communicate since their school day was completely opposite. During their collaboration the students discussed the power of the image in the online world and developed different products, including the winning script to help others better understand how to be safe and responsible online. This was a global event and quite a high achievement for our students!

The students were also recognized at the March 5th board meeting for their accomplishments. See the pictures below from the meeting.
