Seismogram

A seismogram is a printout sheet which helps geologists determine time, epicenter, focal depth, type of fault, and how much energy is released by an earthquake. The time lag between the arrival of the p wave and the arrival of the s wave allows geologists to determine how far the seismograph is from the epicenter of the earthquake. You need at least 3 seismogram readings to determine the exact epicenter of the earthquake. See diagram below:
