March 15th-17th IMMEX Training

During the first months of the project, our IMMEX Liaison teachers were busy using existing problem sets in their classrooms and spreading the word to other teachers. Once the teachers became grounded in how IMMEX works, they were well prepared for the next step - beginning to author their own problem sets.

Our initial authoring workshop was held on March 15 - 17, 2004. Participating in the workshop were two IMMEX Liaison Teachers, five Technology Resource Teachers, the Project Administrator, the Project Technician, and the Principal Investigator. The workshop served a dual purpose. First, it allowed us to begin digging in to the process of authoring. We developed our first two prototype problem sets. Second, it established a core group of people who could help train the remaining staff and students in July. The workshop opened with a presentation by Randall Stevens, CEO of ArchVision, Inc. (http://www.archvision.com). He described the architectural software his company has developed and how vital STEM careers are in creating a workforce for companies like his. Over the three days of the workshop, participants determined content, developed paper prototypes, created IMMEX case links, used DreamWeaver to author their menu items and problem space, conducted peer reviews, and learned the basics of IMMEX packaging.
