Developing A Focused Curriculum

Elementary Social Studies Focused Curriculum

The Social Studies Building Representatives and Elementary Social Studies/Literacy Content Specialist have worked together to provide a "Focused Curriculum" MODEL for Fayette County Elementary Schools. Activities, resources and assessments will need to be added to the model. I am also recommending that teachers look for opportunities to integrate other subject areas, thus developing an integrated unit of study.

The essential questions in each unit will need to be tightened up according to the vehicle you plan to use to teach the question’s focus.

Example: What impact have social institutions had on the 20th century?

Should be tightened up: What is the impact families have had on the U.S. culture in the 20th Century?

The units have been divided into primary and intermediate areas. I do hope this will help as you work to complete the curriculum map including differentiated instruction.
