Persuasive Reading

(Persuasive materials includes whole texts and excerpts from materials such as magazine and newspaper articles, brochures, letters, proposals, speeches, editorials, electronic texts, essays, opinion columns, and advertisements.)

PR12.1 Analyze the use of persuasive and propaganda techniques and how they are used in a variety of written and visual materials.

PR12.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of the development of an argument.

PR12.3 Judge the reliability, accuracy, effectiveness, and persuasiveness of literary criticism and analysis.

Practical/Workplace Reading

HIGH SCHOOL READING EXIT PERFORMANCE STANDARD 4: Student will make sense of a variety of grade level appropriate practical/workplace materials. (Practical / workplace materials include: warranties, recipes, forms, memoranda, consumer texts, and "how-to" manuals.)

WR12.1 Analyze and evaluate technical articles for purpose, organizational patterns, clarity, reliability, accuracy, and relevancy of information.
