HIGH SCHOOL READING EXIT
PERFORMANCE STANDARD 1: Student will make sense of a
variety of grade level appropriate informational materials.
(Informational materials include selections from scientific and
cultural journals, feature article, news article, biography,
autobiography, primary source material.) |

predictions and draw conclusions based on 10th grade passages.
IR10.2 Distinguish
between fact and opinion (e.g., logical fallacy and propaganda).
IR10.3 Relate facts,
generalizations, and definitions within a passage to make
inferences.

inferences supported from the passage.
IR10.5 Analyze the
content as it applies to real life issues and current events.

Literary Reading
HIGH SCHOOL READING EXIT
PERFORMANCE STANDARD 2: Student will make sense of a
variety of grade level appropriate literary materials. (Literary
materials include: short stories, novels, essays, poetry, and plays
consisting of classical and modern texts and representing both
historical and cultural perspectives.) |

interpret the meaning of 10th grade literary passages
LR10.2 Recognize
differences among short stories, novels, essays, poetry, and play
from various literary periods.
LR10.3 Draw logical
conclusions based on connotation, inference, tone, irony, and
allusion.

influence of characters, setting, point of view, plot and structure

Persuasive Reading
HIGH SCHOOL READING EXIT
PERFORMANCE STANDARD 3: Student will make sense of a
variety of grade level appropriate persuasive materials. (Persuasive
materials includes whole texts and excerpts from materials such as
magazine and newspaper articles, brochures, letters, proposals,
speeches, editorials, electronic texts, essays, opinion columns, and
advertisements.) |

PR10.1 Accept or
reject an argument giving supporting evidence.
PR10.2 Recognize a
variety of persuasive and propaganda techniques and explain how they
are used in advertisements and campaigns.
PR10.3 Identify
logical fallacies and explain their effect on the argument (e.g.,
beg the question, circular reasoning, false analogy, etc.).
PR10.4 Recognize
arguments based on emotional appeal.
PR10.5 Analyze and
evaluate the use of persuasion within a passage within classical and
contemporary passages.

variety of grade level appropriate practical/workplace materials.
(Practical / workplace materials include: warranties, recipes,
forms, memoranda, consumer texts, and "how-to" manuals.) |

meaning of specialized vocabulary found in practical reading
passages.
WR10.2 Evaluate the
clarity of practical materials such as warranties, recipes, forms,
memoranda, schedules and directions.
WR10.3 Identify
essential information in a passage needed to assemble or operate a
tool, appliance, and technology hardware.
WR10.4 Make
connections to other topics to comprehend documents. |
