Introduction

Imagine that your group has been transported back in time. You have landed in what is now present day New York State, you have no way back home. The only way that you will be able to survive is to find the local Indian tribe and mimic their way of life. The closest Indian tribe that you find is the Iroquois.

 

The Task

After researching the Iroquois Indians you will fill in a chart about what each family member does. You will also create a long house using appropriate materials from home and school. Each group member will then pick a part of the Iroquois culture and write a one page report.(religion, games, food, government, ect…). Each group will present their findings to the class.

 

The Process

Each group will fill in a chart on each member of the Iroquois family. The group will than create a drawing or sculpture of the Iroquois long house. Each group member than will fill in note cards on the different part of the Iroquois culture, which may include; religion, games, food, and government. You will then take these note cards and write a one page report on the part of culture that you chose.

Evaluation

There will be two grades given on this project.  One grade will be a group grade and the other will be an individual grade.

The group grade will consist of the long house and the family member chart.

The individual grade will consist of the report on the different aspects of the culture of the tribe.

Grading:

Longhouse = 20 pts

Family chart = 10 pts

Culture Report = 20 pts
