Good consumers look at ads daily. Ads help people make wise decisions when it is time to purchase a need or a want. Ads are found in newspapers and magazines, on billboards and the Internet, as well as many other places.  You will be discovering ads found on the Internet throughout this WebQuest.

You are going to shop at a grocery store on the Internet.  During your search for various products you will find one ad and print it out. You will paste it to our class grocery poster. Finally, you will create your own ad to be posted on your Internet web page.

1.     Locate http://www.netgrocer.com
2.    Click on GROCERIES (top left green).
3.    Locate the aisles on the left side of the web page.
4.    Look at the CONSUMER DATA SHEET
        for the aisle you need.
5.    Answer the questions from the               
        CONSUMER DATA SHEET.
6.    Find an ad from the website.
7.    Go to file and print the page from which
        the ad appears.
8.    Cut out the printed ad and paste the ad
        to the class grocery poster.
9.    Create an ad for your own Internet web
        page.

Teachers - You may extend this activity by visiting the grocery store and using an ad from different media (newspaper) to purchase a product. An example would be an ad for oranges. Have the students find the ad in the newspaper, then purchase this item when at the store. Have the students calculate the savings when you return to school.
