Welcome to Ashland, Henry Clay Estate, located at 120 Sycamore Road, Lexington, Kentucky.

The original mansion at Ashland was built in 1806, with the central section of the house being built first.  The wings of the house were not added until 1813-1815.  The mansion which now stands was built in 1857 by James Clay, Henry Clay's son.  The mansion was built on the foundation of the original house and has the same floor plan.

Members of the Clay family lived at Ashland until 1966.  Since that time the mansion has been totally renovated and contains many furnishings and personal belongings of Henry Clay and his descendants.

Henry Clay named his estate "Ash Land" because of the abundance of beautiful ash trees which grew there.  Many large trees still surround the mansion and adorn the property.
