General Maintenance to keep your Computer Healthy

  • Defrag (Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Defrag) - Using Disk Defragmenter regularly helps to minimize the area on the disk in which Windows needs to look to load information.
  • Scandisk (Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Scandisk) - Select option to automatically fix errors. This disk analysis and repair tool runs under Windows to check the integrity of disk and to remedy the problem it detects.

MS Outlook-Working with Offline Folders

Working offline gives you access to your information regardless of whether you are connected to your email server. Offline folders are stored in the offline folders file. This file is located on your computers hard drive and is available even when the network is down. Outlook will automatically synchronize your offline folders with the network folders the next time you login to outlook while online.

Open Outlook Choose "Services" from the "Tools" menu. Alternatively, you can right-click on the Outlook icon on your desktop, and select "Properties."
While MS Exchange is selected choose Properties.
Choose the Advanced tab and then select Offline Folder File Settings button to setup the offline file
If you wish to select an alternative path to your offline folder, you may browse to it. Otherwise, the default is fine. Click "OK."
In "Advanced Properties," make sure "Enable offline use" is checked, and click "OK."
Upon closing Outlook, you will get the message at right. Click "OK."
Synchronization will take a few minutes . . .
All icons in the Outlook bar will now have two blue arrows. This shows that you are using Offline Folders. Anything that you do in Outlook while not connected to the network will be updated automatically the next time you are logged in to the network.

Grant Possibilities from IBM

Attention principals, PTA's, STC's! IBM has a grant program through  their employees/retirees who are associated with a school as a parent or extended family member of a student. They contribute a small cost of an item, and then IBM donates the rest. This enables a recipient school to get a workstation, laptop, etc. Check with your PTA or students to see if your school has IBM parents who might be interested in participating in the program.

Below please find documents from IBM in Acrobat PDF format:
