News from the Talk website

Activities at the TALK website are practical ways to address literacy in various content areas and include technology.  They have been aligned with The Classroom Literacy Guide.  This guide is a rollup of best practices in literacy, consistent for all grade levels, that is put into a form useful for instructional planning, self-evaluation, peer-mentorship and staff development.  It is the "how to" for a good literacy-based program.

Laughter Builds Literacy

We all love to laugh. But, can laughter help students read better? Not exactly, but grabbing students attention through the use of the comics is a way to stimulate students’ curiosity and create interest in reading and the topic of the day. Check out these math related comics and consider how you can use these within reading or math instruction. A great follow-up to a math lesson which began with a comic would be for students to create their own cartoon which illustrates a math-related concept.

Check out this month’s featured TALK lesson!
