Eastside Technical Center Prepares students
for the Information Age
Routers, hubs, repeaters, proxy servers, cat5 cable, single mode and
multimode fiber, TCP/IP, OSI layers… From wiring to servers to
configuring routers, there's a lot to learn about computer networks.
That's the focus of the Cisco Networking Academy at Eastside Technical
Center. All ten juniors and seniors in Ms. Hedman's Advanced Computer
Networking class successfully completed semester one of a four semester
curriculum which prepares them for the CCNA (Certified Cisco Network
Associate) certification. The students are:
Brice Jones (BS) Joshua Messer (BS) David Samons (BS) Sean Mason (LAF)
Adam Taylor (LAF) Jason McLean (PLD) Wayne McNear (TC) Jonathan Newton
(HC) Tony Vowels (EJ) Glen White (EJ)
Cisco is a leading manufacturer of network equipment. Eastside
Technical Center became a Cisco Networking Academy this year. The students
are enrolled in Eastside's Advanced Computer Networking class, where they
will also have the opportunity to earn the Net+ certification. Through an
articulation agreement with Central Kentucky Technical College, they are
also eligible for college credit for each semester of the Cisco
curriculum. The program is available to Fayette, Jessamine, Scott and
Woodford students.
This year, the class rewired one wall of the networking classroom,
installing network wiring in five power poles to improve network access
throughout the room. The classroom has 802.11b wireless communication, and
the students will be installing a fiber link to the Eastside network. The
class has support from IBM and LexMark, as well as Tower Communications,
Insight Communications, and Neville Technologies. Understanding network
equipment, how to put it all together, becoming knowledgeable about the
infrastructure of a computer network helps prepare these students to
become Information Technology professionals

by Chico, James, Morgan, and Serena
Dixie Elementary School, Janet Bertrand and Rachel
Medley
Narration: "Once upon a
time there lived an old man and an old woman. They loved each other
very much and wished they had a baby. One day, the old woman was
washing clothes in a nearby creek when a giant peach came floating
by. The old woman took the giant peach home for dinner. Just before
the old man and woman began to eat the giant peach, it began to
jiggle and shake. Before long, the giant peach cracked open and out
popped a baby boy. The old man and old woman now had a son of their
very own. They named him Peach Boy because he came from a peach.
Peach Boy grew up to be a strong and kind man. He helped his mother
and father out all the time. One day, some mean monsters came to the
village and stole everyone's money. Peach Boy knew what he had to
do. He was going to fight the mean monsters. So Peach Boy set off on
his adventure. Along the way, he became friends with a dog, a
monkey, and a giant bird. They went along with Peach Boy to fight
the mean monsters. Finally, Peach Boy and his new friends arrived at
the gate of the mean monsters. Peach Boy yelled at the monsters to
give back all the villagers stuff. When the monsters laughed at him,
Peach Boy and his friends broke down the gate and fought the
monsters until they gave up. The monsters were sorry for stealing
from the villagers and gave everything back to Peach Boy and his
friends. Peach Boy brought back everything to his friends and
family. And they lived happily ever after." |
