The KCCT and Special Needs Students - textHELP Reader

textHELP websiteThe Kentucky Core Content Test (KCCT) is coming! It is predicted that by 2003, the entire test will be delivered by CD rather than paper for students with an IEP or 504 plan. When that happens, students who require their test questions be read to them can use WordSmith, a text reader which incorporates itself directly into the Microsoft Office products toolbar, and available from textHELP. This is the reading software designated by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) for this purpose, and its use is being piloted at Julius Marks Elementary, Russell Cave Elementary, and Russell Elementary (MIAMI).

Under special contract with KDE, this software is currently on sale for less than half its normal cost. Purchases using this price schedule must be for special education students listing this need in their IEP, and must be routed through the office of Carol Moffett in the District offices. Contact her for documentation which must accompany the purchase order. KETS money can be used for this purpose - see your school STC or school technology committee chair to apply for these funds. For assistance and other resources, consult the KDE Assistive Technologies web page.
