Roger Mullins, IMMEX Project
TechnicianSince his father was in the
Air Force, Roger moved a lot. He was born in Victorville,
California, and lived in Arizona and Texas before settling in
Jenkins, Ky when Dad retired in 1973. Roger graduated from Jenkins Independent
High School, but for the last twenty years he has called Lexington
home. He holds an Associate's degree in
Applied Science from Lexington Community College, and has worked in
Fayette County since 1998, beginning as a campus foreman for Henry
Clay High School. He worked for Maintenance as an electronic
technician, and spent a semester at Beaumont Middle School as a
microcomputer specialist before joining the Office of
Educational Technology this year.
Roger was hired this summer as the IMMEX Project
Technician, where he finds himself supporting a lot of
technology interests. His primary responsibility is to the 10 school
teacher liaisons working on this grant, and the schools in which
they teach. In addition, he manages the IMMEX Website, supports the
development of the IMMEX problem sets, and other duties for the
technology resource teachers. His reputation as a tireless worker is
already well established - he demands to be kept busy, and so far Fayette
County has been happy to oblige!
Roger describes Julane, his wife of 18 years as
"...my best friend and biggest supporter." Roger lives in
Lexington with her and daughter Jaclyn, a senior at Henry Clay. When
he's not working, he likes to travel, and follows NASCAR
("...GO Mark Martin!!!..."). When he has put in his time,
he hopes to retire to a lake cabin.

David Staten, Technology
Resource Teacher
David
counts himself as a veteran of the Fayette County School System,
having fulfilled professional responsibilities here for nearly 30
years. Those responsibilities have included S.A.F.E., middle school
Language Arts, as well as technology integration.
David is originally from the eastern edge of the
state. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky, and graduated from Paul Blazer High
School where he was active in sports, playing baseball and basketball
all four years. He holds a bachelors in Sociology and English from
Eastern Kentucky University, where he played baseball and was a
member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and also received a Masters in
School Counseling. Mr. Staten got bitten by the computer bug while
working on IBM PC Jrs at school. "...I bought an IBM XT for home and learned about static
electricity; bought a 386 soon thereafter and learned about
formatting and hard drive crashes..." The industry, and David's
ability to master it, have improved a great deal since then! He
enjoys working with teachers, and has a reputation for un-pressured
but enthusiastic support for their use of technology in instruction,
finding such work "exciting". As a teacher himself, he
remains in awe of those who can "...handle...six classes of adolescents...stacks of
papers...the demands from outside..."
Dave lives with Ruth, his wife of 28 years, and daughter
Kasey, a senior soccer player for Tates Creek High School. Son
Zack has just transferred to Northern Kentucky University after 3 years at Cumberland
College. Dave finds pleasure in the simpler tasks, enjoying yard work
and house projects. "...You wouldn't believe how relaxing
it is to pound nails into 2x4's after spending a day in middle
school..."

Beth Chittenden, Library Media
Services
Beth is one of two Chittendens working in the Office of
Educational Technology - husband Merrell works in Systems Support as
a LAN/WAN manager and STI technician. Beth met him in Monterey,
California, while she was a member of the U.S. Air Force, and
studying Czech at the Defense Language Institute there. This month
they will be celebrating "...19 wonderful years!"
Beth originally
hails from California's Napa Valley, "
'where
the wine is bottled poetry." She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Russian from the University
of Montana, where she attended on a swimming scholarship. Her first
contact with Fayette County Schools was in the 1990-91 school year,
during which she taught Russian. There have been other professional
forays, but Beth is "grateful for my job" in Media
Services, the office in which she's worked for most of her 10 years
with Fayette County.
Merrell and Beth have two children - Emily
who attends Lexington Community College, and David who attends
Lafayette High School and Southside Vocational School. When not
working, she enjoys bike riding "...during the rare times
I don’t have a flat tire...", swimming, playing Frisbee, cooking,
growing flowers, watching movies, and reading. Beth and Merrell live in Lexington,
and have property in Corbin, where Merrell plans on building a house
in the woods by the lake.
