Technology Fair 2005 -
It's About Kids Using Technology!
On March 19, 2005, hundreds of STLP students from all
over Fayette County converged on Tates Creek High School's campus to
celebrate with the public what they are doing with technology in their
schools. Students were welcomed by Scion on Nicholasville in two
ways:
first, a brand new 2005 Scion loaded with all the technological bells and
whistles available was sitting on the sidewalk as the students came in,
and second, by receiving a t-shirt with the
Technology Fair theme of
"It's About Kids Using Technology!" on it as well as the Scion logo.
Students checked out the car and put their t-shirts on to wear for the
day.
A new exhibit called "IMMEX" was featured in the
front hall. The
IMMEX project in
Fayette County is from a National Science Foundation grant for teachers
and students to develop online
problem sets (scenarios) which require high critical thinking skills to
solve. The teachers develop the content and the students create the
actual web pages. These problem sets are then used by teachers
nationwide to integrate concepts into real-life situations.
Every school had a booth at the Technology Fair and
exhibited either a classroom project, STLP project, or Technology Student
Association (TSA) project which integrates technology. Some of the
booth titles include:
- The Inner Workings of a Computer
- STLP Students Create a Morning News Show
- Make Your Own Cables!
- 3D Animation
- Wireless Security
- Character Education Simulation Game
- GPS Scavenger Hunt
- Technology Into Tomorrow
- Creative Greeting Cards
- Teaching with Technology
- In the News
- STLP Supports Troops and Tsunami Relief Efforts
School
booths were judged by district technology resource teachers. This
process allowed the students and teachers to communicate with the public
about the significance of their project. Hundreds of students
and parents attended an Awards Ceremony where each booth received an award
for one outstanding aspect of their project. A list of the schools
and their awards are located
here.

Community and vendor partners joined the schools as
well. Thanks to Business Solutions Group, Central Kentucky Computing
Society, Dell, Dell TechKnow, eInstruction, IBM, iSAFE, Kentucky Virtual
High School, LexMark, Lexington Public Library and Scion on Nicholasville
for joining us!
