| The IMMEX project proudly
concludes the 2004-2005 school year with 16 completed problem
sets. Five additional middle school sets are slated for
completion by June 1. Even more sets will be generated in our
summer workshop July 11 through 22, so stay tuned! Our latest
additions include: |
Kentucky
Morin and the Pyramid of Doom: (Math, Geometry; Middle
School) You are trapped in the tomb of Mathematicus. In order to
escape, you will need to solve a series of geometry problems on
slope, surface area, volume, the Pythagorean Theorem and more.
The answers from those problems will help you decode the secret
code word that will help you get out of the tomb. Jonathon
Morin, renowned archaeologist and Egyptologist, was facing not
only his destiny, but the end of a life-long search for the tomb
of Mathematicus. The ancient priest was believed to be the
second cousin of Ramses II, and the keeper of all of Egypt's
mystical mathematical secrets. |
Accident
Reconstruction: (Physics/Kinematics, Energy & Momentum;
High School) Use conservation laws to determine how fast two
vehicles were traveling before a violent collision. |
Earthquake:
(Geology; High School) You are a geology student doing
graduate work on a primitive third world island. The island has a
history of earthquake activity and your team has set up
seismographs at strategic locations around the island to record
earthquake activity. You have just begun your modest dinner when
the earth begins to shake. You dispatch teams to the seismographs
to recover their data. There is no time to waste - you must locate
the epicenter of the earthquake so you can send help to the people
who are the most in need. You must find which of the cities on the
island would have been closest to the epicenter; you have 2 1/2 hours. |
