STLP Awards are Numerous at the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference

The Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference (KTLC) was held in Louisville, KY on March 3-5, 2005.  The STLP Awards Program was held in the Cascade Ballroom on Friday, March 4, 2005.  Hundreds of STLP students and adults were present for the awards ceremony.  Fayette County students and teachers received the following awards:

Fayette County Public Schools Receives Platinum STLP District Award

During the STLP awards ceremony at KTLC, Fayette County was recognized as an Outstanding STLP District. The district received a trophy recognizing us as a Platinum level (highest level possible) district! Only five other districts in the state have received either the Platinum or Titanium (lower level) recognition. To apply for the award, documentation was sent to show what Fayette County schools are doing in STLP, what support the district gives to STLP, as well as regional, state, and national level recognition of STLP schools/events.  This award recognizes all students and staff involved with STLP.  Congratulations!!!!

Gold STLP School Award

Congratulations to James Lane Allen for becoming a Gold STLP School!  Check out their winning PowerPoint application.  James Lane Allen joins several other Fayette County schools who have achieved this level of recognition.  To check out the list of schools James Lane Allen is joining, go to our STLP Schools 2004-2005 page.

Outstanding STLP Project Award

Congratulations to Henry Clay High School and Yates Elementary School for each receiving the Outstanding STLP Project Award!Henry Clay's Outstanding STLP Project Award

Erica receiving the award for Henry Clay's STLP.Henry Clay High School's STLP/IMMEX project was selected for the instructional impact their project has for the entire state of Kentucky as well as all other states.  It was also selected due to the strong leadership exhibited by Erica, one of their student technology leaders, in making this project successful.  Henry Clay's IMMEX/STLP group

Yates Elementary School's STLP was recognized for its generous and caring community service projects.  For the first project, the Yates STLP coordinators challenged the STLP/TUT students to bring in needed items for the troops oversea.  Yates was able to collect 1,035 items to send the soldiers.  After the Tsunami disaster, the STLP students “pushed" their coordinators to get moving to help the victims!  They claimed this second project from beginning to end:

  • They brainstormed & decided on the activities they would do to raise the money.
  • They advertised the project.
  • They “worked” the activities.
  • They even counted all the change that was brought in.

Yates was able to raise $1,403 and the PTA offered to match their efforts up to $500.  Their grand total for this project was $1,903.81.

  • Way to go, Henry Clay and Yates student technology leaders!

Showcase Project Booths

The following schools were invited to host a booth in the Exhibit Hall on Friday, March 4, 2005.  Their booth was selected during the regional competition.  Congratulations to both P. L.
