Found Poetry at Squires Elementary
Polar Express

Wrapped with an apron steam
Snow flakes fell lightly
Conductor stood at open door
Tiptoed downstairs
Climbed on the train
Train filled with other children
Sang Christmas carols
Cocoa thick and rich
Outside the lights of towns and villages flickered
No lights to be seen
Traveled through dark forests
Lean wolves roamed
White tailed rabbits hid
Train thundered
Mountains so high it scraped the moon
Faster and faster like a roller coaster
Mountains turned into hills
Barren desert of ice
Lights appeared
The North Pole
Huge City
Christmas toys
Who will it be?
Trained slowed to a crawl
Large circle
Excited reindeer
Ring silver bells
Magical sound
Boy sat on Santa’s knee
Santa’s giant bag
One silver bell
Gave me a hug
First gift of Christmas
Clock struck midnight
Cracked his whip
Disappeared in the cold dark sky
Hole in my pocket
Lost silver bell
Sudden lurch
On my way home
Broken hearted
Waved good bye
Conductor yelled Merry Christmas
Sounding of the train pulling away
Christmas morning
Opened presents
Surprise “My Bell”
Ringing of the bell
Parents can’t hear

Title: The Pioneer Cat

Have you ever lost your best friend? In this story,
Kate loses her best friend and found a stray cat, which becomes her
"best friend".
This story takes place in Oklahoma when the pioneers were moving
west.
The main characters are Kate, Snuggs the cat, her parents, Benjy,
her brother, Duffy, her little sister, and Rosie, her new best
friend. Captain Joahn is the wagonmaster who leads this family to
Oklahoma.
Kate loses her new best friend when she moves west. During her
journey, she gains new "friends" with Snuggs the cat, as well as,
Rosie her new friend.
I love cats. This book tells an interesting story about how the
pioneers faced hardships along the way. Through these hardships, the
pioneers learned to make new friends along the way. Some of these
friends were animals.
