David Beaty, Tech Resource Teacher

David BeatyDavid was born in Lexington, though his travails and interests have taken him across the globe! A graduate of Jessamine County High School, he has attended Seattle Pacific University and Asbury College, and has a Bachelors in Biology and Secondary Education. He has also, along the way, obtained a CompTIA Network + certificate, making him equally at home in front of the classroom, and inside the network!

In the classroom, Mr. Beaty has taught science, computer applications, auto mechanics, and he spent four years at Rift Valley Academy, an American boarding school in Kenya, where he "parented" the high school boys there as a dorm counselor. David joins Fayette County for the first time this year as one of Crawford's full-time tech resource teachers.

Besides information technologies, David loves the outdoors, including rock climbing, and he keeps his auto mechanics skills up with practice. David's wife teaches art, and Mr. and Mrs. Beaty live in Wilmore, and are expecting their first child in January!

Doug Gibson, Supervisor of Systems Integration

Doug GibsonDoug grew up as one of five children in Carter and Greenup counties, graduating from Greenup High School before going on to Morehead State University to major in math with a minor in data processing. His mother was a teacher and his father worked for the US Dept of Agriculture, and all but one of their five children ended up in education. During high school and college he played saxophone in a rock band, and actually played for Fayette County tech resource teacher Rosemary McFarland's senior prom on an Ohio River showboat! (Rosemary was featured in the December, 2001 edition of TIPS.)

Doug worked in Information Processing for various companies before coming to work for Fayette County Schools. When he joined the Office of Technology in 1986, there were only nine people in the office, with "..no personal computers, networks, or viruses!" In a discipline which usually exhibits a fast turnover, Doug has become the senior member of his staff. Currently, he supervises the student records systems area (STI).

He has been married for 27 years to Trisha, a Lexington native who also works for Fayette County. Daughter Courtney graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and works as an Occupational Therapist for Cardinal Hill Hospital. Son Jeremy is majoring in Chemical Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Son Jason is majoring in Music Education at Western Kentucky University. The only child still at home is Sassy, the toy poodle, who just eats, sleeps and plays ball.

Doug and Tricia GibsonDoug spent many years coaching his children's basketball and baseball teams and displays all the team photos in his office. His leisure activities include family gatherings, boating, attending marching band competitions, watching UK basketball, and playing golf.

His most commonly used quote is: "Things will either all work out…….Or they won't," He's usually right.

Lucinda Sanders, Tech Resource TeacherLucinda Sanders

Mrs. Sanders brings with her a lot of unique qualities as she joins the Fayette County tech office for her first year.

  • Her mother's maiden name is also Sanders ("After people verify that I understand what 'maiden name' means, then I get the cracks about Kentucky marriages!")
  • She was a member of the All-USA Teacher Team for 2001 (See this article in the Courier-Journal)
  • She is a former state coordinator for TRTs (she came from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) to join FCPS this fall)

She is a Lancaster native who largely grew up in North Carolina, but returned to Kentucky to graduate from Tates Creek High and the University of Kentucky, receiving a Bachelors and Masters in History. She also holds a Rank 1 in Gifted Education from Eastern Kentucky University, and is currently a doctoral student at UK in Administration and Leadership.

Lucinda began her teaching career in Mercer County. She almost left the profession, but was "rescued" by Steve Henderson, then at Model Lab School at Eastern, and subsequently spent fourteen years at Danville High School. She left there to take the position at KDE. This year her responsibilities will include the elementary/middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA), with additional responsibilities at the District level. In particular, she will be heavily involved in the NSF/IMMEX grant, having been trained in its use while at KDE.

Mrs. Sanders returned to Lancaster when she married her "very nice attorney" husband, James. They have two children: Alan trains tankers at Fort Hood (1st Division Cavalry), and Cecilee is assigned to the USCG Seneca for the Coast Guard. Having spent a great deal of her childhood a few hours from the Atlantic Ocean, Lucinda and James relish ocean and state park destinations for their vacations. Lucinda also likes to read, with an unapologetic affection for trash fiction - "I only read good stuff for credit or money!"
