Teachers across the state of KY study the different
regions; major cities, landforms, rivers, economy and history among other
things. Generally the information is provided in the form of text books,
websites, brochures and general teacher knowledge. Imagine how exciting it
would be for students to study the regions of KY with other students across
the state. The Regions of KY Project does just that.
The project was designed so that 4th grade students across
the state could interact with one another in a safe environment while both
learning from each other and serving as an expert in the region that they
live in. We decided that the easiest way to promote communication where
everyone could be involved and student participation monitored would be
through our Fayette County Forums. Currently, we have several classes in
three counties talking with one another about topics generally covered
during the regions study. When students get together for a project, they
want to talk about other interesting topics. So, the Regions of KY
Playground was created to provide participants with an area to discuss other
topics like books they are reading or interesting classroom happenings.
Due to the number of teachers involved, the KY Regions
Project Page was developed to assist with lesson ideas, links and
announcements.
