Panda Cub Takes First Steps (link to story

"At 98 days old the panda cub has just started to waddle, compared to a human baby, that is about seven months earlier than they would walk. The panda cub weighs 11.4 pounds which is smaller than most human babies at that age. The vet thinks the cub will stop waddling when he walks in about a week when his legs get stronger. I thought it was interesting that the panda cub already had teeth and human babies don’t have teeth until they are older. I thought it was interesting that the panda bear actually had a family and that the parents didn’t leave him on his own after a few months. The San Diego Zoo has the largest population of Giant Pandas in the United States. Finally, a few questions that this article did not answer are how long the mother panda bear was pregnant before the cub was born? And when the panda cub will be named?"

Each month TIPS will be featuring reactions to news stories by students which have been posted on "Your View of the News." For help with using this resource in your classroom, look at this tutorial, or contact your TRT

Title: The Amazing Christmas Reviewer: Shanoah
Author: Shannon, David Teacher: Spaulding, Lisa
Illustrator:   School: Linlee Elementary

The Great christmas Extravaganza is a exelent book. Its about a man named Mr.Merriweather who jealous of neighbors christmas decorations. He only had one strand of white lights. By being a jealous he was drove to have all the decorations in all of the stores. His wife was getting angry and so were his own children.

The setting of this book is in a small house, in a small town. The man traveles from store to store and work shop to workshop. This is a peaceful town except when the people of the small town get angry at Mr. Merriweather because he wasted all of there electricty.

The main character of this story was Mr. Merriweather. Mr. merriweather is one of those type of people who doesnt realize when they are doing somthing wrong. Another important characters{though not mentioned in the book alot}is Mrs.Merriweather. She thinks that Mr.Merriweather is going out-of -control with his christmas decoration. I think she is a little bit angy at him at the beginning of the book but she is happy for Mr. Merriweather at the end.

A highlight of this story was when Mr. Merriweather started putting up so many Christmas lights and decorations that the towns lights went out. The town got really furious when this happened because Mr.Merriweathers lights stiil stay on.

This is a very great book because of all the excitment and the suspense. I reccomend this book to children of all ages because it will brighten anyones day.

FractionsFractions! Fractions!

Students often have difficulty with the concept of fractions especially when they start adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing them. This series of webpages walks students through these concepts. Discuss with students how you can read explanations and use illustrations to deepen their comprehension of any subject. This unit on fractions is broken down into several lessons and webpages. Use these to introduce or review the concept of fractions. You can also assign one lesson per student. Have them read and study their lesson and then present it to the class.
