A Wordsmith and TextHELP Update
  1. Wordsmith is STILL available for those who want to purchase at the contract price. Just like any other update the Read and Write Gold is newer and has fewer glitches than the other. It is also a little more expensive.
  2. When loading either application the school needs to decide where and when it will need to be accessed. Some students that are mainstreamed out into regular classrooms may need it on those computers. Some will need access in a lab. With the site license it can be loaded on all school computers, but I do understand the logistical problems presented by this. Remember that this software is only limited to special education use when reading the KCCT test and scanning. ANY student in the building can use it as a talking word processor.
  3. textHELP websiteTextHELP has assigned a single technician for Kentucky use. Her name is Eimear Magee, e.magee@texthelp.com There is a 1-888-333-3907 number that we can call but it is here in US, and then it is forwarded at their cost to Northern Ireland. They seem to answer email more quickly than phone messages.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with. I understand that it is difficult to work with a third party on this, but that is the way the state has set up this contract.

Thanks for all the help in making sure ALL students succeed in FCPS.
