Review:
Most single mothers don’t get a lot of credit. People think they
are going to fail, not accomplish anything, and they also make it seem
harder than it really is. Well Single Mom, by Omar Tyree tells you how
a mother of two growing boys succeeds at things she wants to do and
more, with the words and comments from friends and family.
Living in Chicago, Illinois, and raising two young
men for Denise Stewart isn’t too bad.
Jimmie, the father of her first and oldest son,
suddenly wants to play a major role in her sons life. Walter the
father of her second child is trying to gain custody of her son.
Dennis is a truck driver that is falling in love with Denise and her
two boys, and all the while she runs her own business, co-chairs a
single mothers program with her best friend Camilia,
and struggles to keep the faith of her family. When
she finally thinks that things are at there best, her success takes an
all-new meaning in her increasingly complex life.
A little after ten years of raising her boys, she
finds herself involved with both of her babies fathers along with a
new man.
Omar Tyree offers a provocative look at the
emotional lives of three black men as they grapple with their lives
and changing views as fathers and lovers. “I had became something
else, some different kind of women,” Denise says as she tries to
hold the family together. But when worse comes to worse, Tyree creates
a single mother of striking character and independence. When you think
of single mothers, don’t think of negative things-just think of
amazing people.
