Richard
Forston - Technology Resource Teacher
Dick Forston so thoroughly enjoyed his experience at
Morton Junior High School as a student that he has returned as a
technology resource teacher! Of course, the state of technology has
changed a bit since then, but Dick has stayed current - his submission to
this publication was peppered with links! (We have preserved them
faithfully.)
Dick is an alumnus
of Henry Clay High School, attending when its address was still 701 East
Main Street (now Central Office). He received a Bachelors and Masters in
Education from the University
of Kentucky, and he's been a Fayette County teacher at Jessie Clark,
Lafayette, and Southern Middle. During his tenure he has been a sponsor of
academic teams, photography clubs, ham radio clubs, video yearbooks, and
was a School Technology Coordinator. And briefly, during the summers
of his first years of teaching, he cleaned the inside of school coal
fired boilers!
Mr.
Forston's Tech Resource Teacher responsibilities, besides Morton
Middle School, now include Bryan
Station Traditional Middle School, Crawford
Middle
School, and the School
for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCAPA) at Bluegrass. Dick
specializes in the interesting but obscure, and his website is loaded with
links reflecting this.
Dick has been married for 31 years to his high school
sweetheart, the former Jane Ann Peters, who is presently the attendance
clerk at Lafayette
High School.
Son Seth was a member of the first Lafayette
HS Band to win a state marching championship. He’s now a high
school band director in South Carolina. His wife, Kim, is a civil
engineer with the state environmental
agency in South Carolina.
Dick's avocational interests are as extensive as his
professional ones. Over the years, pastimes have included amateur
radio, photography, needlepoint, gardening, genealogy,
severe
weather spotting, and reading
(mostly American history). An avid University
of Kentucky sports fan, he's ushered football and basketball games as
a Boy Scout (at Stoll
Field and Memorial
Coliseum!). His ultimate fantasy is to be locked in the Library
of Congress or National Archives
over a weekend with free access to their resources. He sings in the Parish
Choir at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Dick and Jane
(yes, they have fun with that!) reside in Lexington with their cat Tailchaser.
