A good reader is someone who thinks before, during, and after their reading experience. This lesson is going to provide an opportunity for the reader to interact with an online magazine article about Orcas. The student will be responsible for completing a K-W-L chart either online or as a handout. The purpose of this lesson is to teach students the importance of activating prior knowledge while reading.

The Literary Book Club is all new! You can find the new site at http://teach.fcps.net/lbc. We have made some major changes based on your feedback. Changes for students include the ability to...
  • Upload pictures with book reviews.
  • Save work, so students can return later to finish

Grade-level appropriate writing prompts and examples have been added to each step to help students and teachers better understand the process. We are working on a live chat where classes across the district can meet and discuss the books they have read and possibly meet with local guest authors.

Changes for teachers and guest include:

  • Teacher approval of student submissions.
  • Teacher comments for suggestions, encouragement, even grading (only visible to the student submitter).
  • Guest comments (so Grandma in Florida can say some nice things about their grandchild's work!)

In order to use these new features teachers and students must register to be a part of the club - click on the Teacher Resources link on the left. There you will find the Teacher Registration link, and a link to more detailed directions for using the Literary Book Club. If you have any questions, there is a Contact Us link on every page with information on who helps to operate the LBC. You can also email Adam Brewer, Project Coordinator (abrewer@fayette.k12.ky.us) with questions. If you need help getting started, your school's Technology Resource Teacher can also help.
