Special Areas-Based Literacy Activities

Special Area classes include Arts and Humanities, Physical Education, Music, Library, Music, etc.

The lessons in this section are designed to provide teachers sample lessons that address fostering literacy within these classes.

Transactive Writing-Feature Article Style (8887)
	In this lesson, students will take a written feature article and produce it in a news article format.
Word Fun with Timeliner (5456)
	Use the Timeliner program to review vocabulary and word wall words!
Bold Words (4533)
	As adults we rarely read informational material word for word when we are looking for specific information. A reader uses scanning skills to get the main idea of sentences and paragraphs.
Word Turtle (3970)
	Students use a site to create a word search puzzle with spelling words or vocabulary words then solve the puzzle.
A Nation Divided (3517)
	These activities are presented together to provide students an opportunity through a Jeopardy game to consider questions about the Civil War.
Greece (3210)
	This activity focuses on student literacy skills as they both read and view pictures and drawings. The worksheet guides student through specific websites to locate information about the Parthenon in Greece.
