Language Arts-Based Literacy Activities

To foster literacy skills in all children reading instruction must consider the child’s background knowledge, experience with texts and as well as reading skills and strategies the child uses to make meaning from text. Effective reading instruction must then include activities to prepare that student to read the text, pertinent strategies to use to gain meaning from the text and opportunities to reflect and extend on the information after it has been read.

The lessons in this section include specific activities teachers can use to develop effective reading instruction that addresses various pre-reading, during-reading and post-reading activities
