At Day Treatment, we have just received a grant that will allow every teacher to have a camera for their classroom. This grant also covers the teachers at Florence Crittenton and Bluegrass Youth Development Center. At Day Treatment, started the year with one camera and it has been passed around from room to room. Each field trip the camera is carried by the students to take the pictures. Goal 1,2,4,6 ---When they return, we are encouraging them to use the pictures to create multimedia presentations. In addition, we would like to print some of the pictures to be used on bulletin boards, to highlight student achievements and to publicize other events going on in the building. For this to be done, we need to purchase a color photo quality printer. When pictures are taken, the class may use a photo request form that STLP will create to request copies of the photos to be printed. Goal 1,2,4,6 --It will be the job of the STLP group to decide if the pictures are academically appropriate for printing or if there is some other merit for printing the photos. (WITH SUPERVISION) The STLP group will be responsible for printing the photos and delivering them to the teachers. Digital pictures can be submitted from the other programs to be printed.

We are beginning the year by selling business cards to staff and designing them especially for each one. This addresses the students socially as they work with teachers. This activity is a service that benefits the staff and others in our community (we sell these for $2.00/50). This activity forms learning partnerships between the leaders from last year and the new students this year. It also enhances learning of technology (keyboarding, printing, software) for all involved. As we go into the year we plan to write a hardbound book and have it published. We have the material and plan to brainstorm topics. Some topics include "how to" for Library and other classes in school that may need instructions written out. We also have thought about something with easy to understand techno tips or a cookbook with all the favorite recipes that the PTA brings in each year. As always, we will work with the PTA and staff to make signs, brochures and invitations to events as asked. (Goals 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6)

The STLP has been working on the Veterans History Project which is a project sponsored by the Library of Congress. The students collected oral records from our veterans that visited us during our veterans celebration. The recordings will be submitted to the Library of Congress and have also been added as podcasts to our school webpage. The project was designed to help each student learn to be a leader by conducting an interview with a veteran. We also chose this project because it was a way to bring the Hayes community together to share the experiences of our honored veterans.

STLP students have been working with Audacity to edit and catalog each question asked during the interview. They are also using FrontPage to create a website dedicated to the veteran they interviewed.
