STEM Fair Information

If you are new to STLP, you may have some questions about what to expect and how to prepare for the STEM Fair. Once you arrive, you'll have a super time, you'll be impressed by the students, and you'll be glad you are there! But right now, the STEM Fair is months away and you're wondering how to get started.

Getting Started:  Look at the STEM Fair website and think about your options. Every school will have a Showcase table, but you may also have some students who want to make a presentation, submit digital art, submit a public service announcement video, or submit interactive content. If you feel that you have something that won't fit in an area - everything fits in Showcase.

Showcase:  Tables are set up in long rows with students ready to show off what they've been working on. Many tables are covered with a plastic or cloth tablecloth and most tables have a tri-fold board (like the Science Fair) to display their title, maybe a product, and pictures of their group in action. Many groups bring a laptop and request a flat screen monitor. This allows the students to work on the laptop from behind the table and show their work on the monitor. You may be able to get an idea about table setup from the pictures in the December 2, 2007 STLP Blog. For more information about STEM Fair Showcases, click here.

Students and Parents:  Many parents enjoy seeing what all of the schools have been doing and almost every school will have students present to man their school table. Some parents will stay a while and then leave and come back to pick up students. Some parents will prefer to drop off students and come back during or after the awards ceremony. The Awards Ceremony should end about 12:30.

Presentations: These are usually PowerPoint presentations given by high school students. Presentations could also be made from a website or other projected technology projects that are student created. It would be fun to see some elementary and middle school presenters. Digital Art:  Digital Art will be accepted for judging or display. Submissions and displays will be electronic. For more information about STEM Fair digital art, click here.

Video:  Public Service Announcement videos will be accepted for judging. The good thing about getting this video ready for the STEM Fair is that you can also submit it to the STLP State Competition. For more information about STEM Fair videos, click here.

Interactive Content: This category was created so students would have a place to submit projects they have created in Flash or Java, or other platforms which allow the user to interact with the content - or in other words, to click around and something happens. For more information about STEM Interactive Content, click here.

Registration:  Registration information will be posted on the STEM Fair website. The registration deadline will usually be mid December or early January. The information submitted during registration will be used to create a program, prepare the site, and prepare for judging. If you would like to check the information you submitted, it will appear in our online program a day or so after submission. The online program is located under the "Details" tab on the STEM Fair website.
