The Present Pennyroyal Region

I.  RESOURCES AND INDUSTRY
  • This region has the best soil in the state.
  • The farmers grow corn, wheat and hay
  • The Mammoth cave is located in the Pennyroyal.    It is the largest  cave in Kentucky and was on the Underground Railroad, an escape route for slaves, during the Civil War.
  • Ft. Knox is located here in this region.  Ft. Knox holds the nation's supply of gold.   
  • It has the only Corvette plant in the state.

II.GE0GRAPHY

  • Pennyroyal is the largest region.  It covers 35 of Kentucky's 120 countie.  It stretches over 11,500 square miles.
  • The region was named after a small mint plant called the Pennyroyal.  This plant was used to make tea and cough medicine.
  • The biggest cities are Bowling Green and Elizabethtown.
